Eumir Marcial clinched a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by beating Byamba-Erdene Otgonbaatar of Mongolia in the Asia/Oceania qualifying tournament in Jordan on Sunday.

The victory also meant Marcial, a first-time Olympian, advanced to the semifinals of the middleweight division in Amman.

"I'm very happy because 4 years ago I didn't qualify. I dedicate this to my father because he wanted to see me play in the Olympics," a teary-eyed Marcial said.

"I trained hard to qualify. I gave my best but I know God will do the rest. I want to win the gold, I'll train hard do my best and get the gold for the Philippines and my father."

Marcial joins gymnast Carlos Yulo and pole-vaulter EJ Obiena as the three Filipinos so far who have booked a ticket to the Tokyo Games.

Women’s fighters Irish Magno and Riza Pasuit could follow Marcial to Tokyo should they win their respective bouts Monday.

Countrymen Ian Clark Bautista, James Palicte, Carlo Paalam and world champion Nesthy Petecio have bowed out.
