MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion De La Salle University will try to make it three wins in a row when it takes on National University in the UAAP Season 81 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Lady Spikers have opened their bid for a fourth straight title on a bright note, dismissing Ateneo in their season-opener then sweeping Adamson last Saturday for their second consecutive win.

Coach Ramil de Jesus has gotten solid contributions from veteran open spikers Des Cheng and May Luna, along with rookie Jolina dela Cruz.

De Jesus said they cannot underestimate a young National U squad, especially as the Lady Bulldogs have momentum after grabbing their first win also last Saturday.

NU had swept University of the East to move to 1-1 in the season.

"Noong first game nila, maganda na pinapakita nila. Nadisgrasya lang 'yung setter," De Jesus said of NU, referring to the knee injury suffered by rookie playmaker Joyme Cagande.

"Nandoon na ang communication nila sa loob ng court, and in-expect ko nga na today mag-iiba sila, mas maraming solid ng galaw," he added.

That's exactly what he saw as the Lady Bulldogs downed Kath Arado and the Lady Warriors, 25-19, 25-23, 25-19.

"Kailangan talaga sa Wednesday, paghandaan namin, 'wag pagkumpyansahin sila kasi hindi madali kalaban ang NU," De Jesus said.

The Lady Spikers will be on the lookout for NU's talented freshmen, particularly Ivy Lacsina and Princess Robles.

Game time is at 2:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the UE Lady Warriors and the Adamson Lady Falcons will battle at 4:00 p.m., with both squads seeking their first win.

Both the Lady Warriors and the Lady Falcons currently have 0-2 cards to sit at the bottom of the league standings.
