MANILA -- The PBA Legends Return of the Rivals was such a hit among basketball fans over the weekend that organizers are already contemplating a second run.

Nearly 17,000 spectators filled up the Araneta Coliseum to witness the return of their idols as Allan Caidic, who led San Miguel to a 96-83 win over the Alaska Aces, while Ginebra dominated fan favorite Purefoods, 97-89, in the main game.

The event raised P3 million for a worthy cause.

"May mga plano, and mataas ang clamor na magkaroon ulit," Caidic told PBA.ph.

Caidic was one of those who pushed for the rivals games that relived some of the most heated rivalries in PBA history.

"Initially gusto namin talaga magkaroon ng mix naman, next time puwedeng San Miguel at Ginebra naman, Purefoods-Alaska or vice-versa. Maraming plano."

Several legends shone during the games.

Two-time MVP Danny Ildefonso had a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds for San Miguel, while Willie Miller, also a 2-time MVP, finished with 20 points for Alaska.

Caidic himself exploded for 6 three-pointers on the way to a game-high 26 points while playing for the Beermen.

JayJay Helterbrand had a triple double of 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Vince Hizon added 19 points for Ginebra.

Roger Yao was Purefoods' top scorer with 27 points. Tonyboy Espinosa and Paul Artadi added 14 markers each.
