MANILA, Philippines – Tuwi Park fired a three-run homer to highlight De La Salle University's 19-1 rout of University of the Philippines (UP) in its first game of the UAAP Season 79 baseball tournament.

The Green Batters, the reigning baseball champions, put on a batting clinic to finish off the Fighting Maroons in just seven innings at the Rizal Memorial Stadium over the weekend.

Last season's runners-up, Ateneo de Manila University, carved out an abbreviated 12-2 victory over University of Santo Tomas, while National University (NU) edged Adamson University, 7-5.

UP, meanwhile, took an early lead in the softball tournament by beating University of the East (UE), 11-5, then edging Ateneo, 6-5, in succession.

MJ Abanes delivered a solo homer in the first inning, and the Lady Maroons overcame a late fightback by the vastly-improved Lady Eagles to book their second win on Monday.

Reigning six-time champions Adamson rallied past NU, 6-5, in extra innings to open its seven-peat bid on a winning note.

UE, meanwhile, edged La Salle, 5-4.
