MANILA -- Ara Galang marked a triumphant return to UAAP women’s volleyball by steering De La Salle University to a straight sets victory over Far Eastern University (FEU) to open their campaign in UAAP Season 78 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City..

The Lady Spikers defeated the Morayta-based team, 29-27, 25-23 and 25-20.

Galang, who has recovered from a harrowing knee injury she sustained in last season's semifinals, tallied 10 points for La Salle.

Mika Reyes top-scored the Lady Spikers with 13 points, while Carol Cerveza added 10.

Toni Rose Basas paced the Lady Tamaraws with 13 markers. Mary Joy Palma added 12 in their losing effort.

La Salle joined the other opening-day winners -- reigning champion Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines and Adamson University.
