Philippines men's national football coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said his side lost sight of one of China's best scorers, leading to a 3-0 loss in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup Friday.

Wu Lei scored a brace against the Azkals in Abu Dhabi, helping the Chinese team to the last 16.

"Before the game, I identified three China players who were very dangerous, and Wu Lei was one of those," Eriksson said in an article posted on the Asian Football Confederation website.

"He scored two great goals, as we did not pay him enough attention and we paid the price because of that."

Despite having no wins and no goals, Eriksson is looking at the situation from a glass half-full perspective.

“It seems strange maybe, but I am rather proud of my team even though we lost 3-0,” he said. “Overall though, in the two games we have played, we have shown that we can play football."

The coach is hoping the Philippines will score a breakthrough against Kyrgystan next week.

"We are not going home yet, and we will see what happens in the last group-stage game,” he said.
