MANILA — The farmgate price of fish in Bataan province has dropped after the oil spill in Manila Bay, fishers' group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) said on Sunday.

In a statement, Pamalakaya said the farm gate price of alubaybay (sardinella albella) fish is now P50 per kilogram, a 58.33-percent decrease from P120 per kilogram before the oil spill.

The fishers' group urged the Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to officially adopt a measure to directly procure agri-fishery products from local producers at reasonable farmgate prices.

According to Pamalakaya, around 9,000 fisherfolk in Bataan have been directly affected by the oil spill and the fishing ban in Limay town.
