MANILA — Thousands of liters of oil were extracted from the sunken MTKR Terranova during Wednesday's operation, as authorities prepared other foundered ships off Bataan for refloating, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Thursday.

The contracted salvor of the Terranova installed another booster pump to improve the siphoning efficiency and collected some 42,000 liters of oil, the PCG said in an update, as of Wednesday night.

The Terranova was carrying 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel when it sank off Bataan, still part of Manila Bay, amid bad weather last month.

The salvage firm tapped by the owners of MTKR Jason Bradley continued pumping seawater and prepared the ship's steering room for refloating, the PCG said.

MV Mirola 1's salvor was patching and repairing the vessel’s hull, as well as extracting seawater in preparation for the refloating operations, it said.

The PCG said there was no oil sheen observed in coastal communities near MTKR Jason Bradley and MV Mirola 1.
