Mayon Volcano in Albay spewed ash anew Thursday afternoon. 

Phovolcs Legazpi resident volcanologist Dr. Paul Alanis said, the phreatic eruption occurred at 6:16 p.m., July 18. 

A light gray ash and steam plume approximately 656 feet (200 meters) high were observed over Mayon, according to Alanis.

The phreatic eruption was not visible in most parts of Albay, particularly in Legazpi City, according to Alanis, because the volcano was covered with thick clouds.

 Erupting Mayon continues to ooze lava; Alert 3 remains 

 “Hindi visible sa lahat may isang side lang, sa Legazpi hindi kita natatakpan ng ulap,” Alanis said. 

 He said ash ejected by the volcano did not reach the community near the volcano.

 “Wala naman po kasi nandun lang naman po yan sa dun sa... 200 meters lang po kung magkakaroon man doon lang yun sa loob ng PDZ,” he said.

Alanis added the phreatic eruption is expected in Mayon and it is still under alert level 1.

 Mayon enters first month of heightened unrest

 “Expect lang tayo ng mga ganyan na ano na phenomenon, kasi siyempre unstable pa po siya katatapos lang naman ng eruption, hindi naman po yan noong unang beses noon May and around Tuesday meron din pero malilit lang yun,” he added.
