Severe tropical storm Kristine has gradually decelerated after making landfall in Divilacan, Isabela Thursday even as it moves northwestward over Northern Luzon, weather bureau PAGASA said.

As of 4 a.m., Kristine’s center was estimated based on all available data in the vicinity of Tumauini, Isabela. Packing 95 kph winds near the center and gusts of up to 160 kph, Kristine is moving west northwestward at 15 kph.

PAGASA weather forecaster Benison Estareja said Kristine is expected to cross Northern Luzon today and may emerge over the waters west of Ilocos Region Thursday afternoon or evening.

“Base sa latest satellite animation, ito na ‘yung peak na magkakaroon tayo ng malakas na hangin at malakas na ulan na siyang direktang epekto ng bagyong Kristine lalo na są Northern at Central Luzon,” he said.

It will then move west northwestward over the West Philippine Sea and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday  afternoon.

Meanwhile, another low pressure area has been spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility and has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.

Estareja said the brewing storm may enter PAR early next week.

PAGASA said there is a moderate to high risk of life-threatening storm surge up to 3.0 m above normal tide levels in the next 48 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal localities of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Zambales, and Quezon.
