MANILA - The Philippines on Friday condoled with Syria after some 200 people were killed in a series of attacks launched by terrorist group Islamic State in southern parts of the Middle Eastern country earlier this week.

"We grieve with the families of the more than 200 people who lost their lives in the latest acts of terror by the Islamic State," Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano said in a statement.

At least 200 people died in the coordinated attacks where jihadists seized hostages, detonated bombs, and blew themselves up in different locations in Syria.

"The Philippine Embassy in Damascus has reported that at least 150 other people were wounded in the attacks but said there were no Filipinos among the casualties," Cayetano said.
