MANILA - The Philippines on Friday condoled with Syria after some 200 people were killed in a series of attacks launched by terrorist group Islamic State in southern parts of the Middle Eastern country earlier this week.

At least 200 people died in the coordinated attacks where jihadists seized hostages, detonated bombs, and blew themselves up in different locations in Syria.

"The Philippine Embassy in Damascus has reported that at least 150 other people were wounded in the attacks but said there were no Filipinos among the casualties," Cayetano said.

The DFA reminded Filipinos in Syria to "take the necessary precautions following the coordinated attacks by the Islamic State in the province of Sweida."
