MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs on Monday recorded 68 new confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad, with most of the cases coming from Europe, bringing the total number of coronavirus infections to 1,819.

There are also 4 new recoveries and 4 new deaths confirmed in Europe and in the Middle East.

Of the 1,819 cases, 475 patients have recovered while 214 others have died.

The DFA’s repatriation efforts slowed down due to the temporary suspension of flight operations at NAIA until May 10.

The DFA said this is “another measure of the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure that our OFWs are adequately attended to upon their arrival.”

The agency asked returning Filipinos affected by the suspension to contact the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate where they are currently located. The contact details may be accessed through OFW Help Facebook page and the DFA website.

In the Philippines, the coronavirus disease has so far infected 9,485 people, with 623 deaths and 1,315 recoveries.
