MANILA - Seven Filipino seafarers acquitted of fuel smuggling in Libya are en route to the Philippines, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday.

The DFA said the seafarers already left Tripoli assisted by Presidential Adviser on Overseas Filipino Workers Affairs Abdullah Mamao.

The seafarers were taken into custody in August 2017 by the Libyan Coast Guard on suspicion of fuel smuggling and were earlier sentenced to 4 years in prison.
