The Department of Social Welfare and Development said it was coordinating with local governments to bring in much-needed assistance.
“We have already provided initial assistance to Metro Manila, Albay, Camarines Sur, Antique, Negros Occidental, Northern Samar, Easter Samar, and Western Samar,” DSWD Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said.
“This morning mahigit P16 million of humanitarian assistance were already provided but as the reports are coming in from our field offices, we are expecting this number to increase. In fact, tayo ay nakapagpahatid na po ng initial na mga family food packs and mga non-food items na kinabibilangan ng family kits; hygiene kits; at mga kitchen kits dito po sa mga lugar na ito,” she said.
Dumlao said the DSWD also distributed food and non-food items to stranded passengers in the Batangas port and the Bicol region.
She said DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian was in Antipolo to personally supervise the distribution of aid to affected residents. – With a report from Pia Gutierrez, ABS-CBN News
