MANILA — The Quad Committee of the House of Representatives on Friday night cited Chinese businessman Tony Yang in contempt after he failed to answer several questions that Sta. Rosa, Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez asked during the hearing.

Yang was asked if he knew Allan Lim and Ricky Go, who are linked to him as incorporators of his businesses.

Allan Lim was on the General Information Sheet of Yang’s rice milling business in Cagayan De Oro as presented during the hearing.

Through translator Carol Batay, Yang consistently denied that he knew Go and Lim saying: "I never had the company with the two of them."

“There are two personalities, drug personalities, that I mentioned that are included as incorporators of the two companies, and he lied twice. Allan Lim and Ricky Go who are involved in drugs. And now, in front of us, he is lying. I think, Mr. Chairman, it’s high time that ... we cite him in contempt,” said Fernandez.

Congress, which is authorized to hold inquires in aid of legislation or in the exercise of its oversight over the executive branch, has limited contempt powers when holding hearings.

Fernandez also showed a video of Yang entering an airport and bypassing immigration officers without inspection.

“Papasok siya diyan sa immigration. Makikita niyo pagpasok niya, nag-red na siya, nagtuloy-tuloy pa siya. Wala siyang pakialam. Hindi niya nirerespeto ang ating mga immigration officer. Why? We don’t know. He established a lot of pakikisama to all those people. Basically, we, Filipinos have something also to be regretful kasi pinababayaan natin na tayo ay babuyin ng mga banyagang tulad nito,” Fernandez furthered.

(He's entering the Immigration. You can see that the light is blinking red yet he's still entering. Why? He doesn't care. He doesn't respect our immigration officers. Why? We don't know. He established a lot of cooperation to all those people. Basically, we, Filipinos have something also to be regretful because we've allowed ourselves to be disrespected by foreigners like these.)

Yang was about to be detained in Quezon City jail, however, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission requested that he be detained at the PAOCC Temporary Detention Facility instead.

Yang, brother of former presidential adviser Michael Yang, was arrested on September 19 for immigration violations.

He is believed to be the owner of the Philippine Sanjia Steel Corporation in Cagayan de Oro, which allegedly has the same layout as the POGO hubs raided in Bamban, Tarlac and in Porac, Pampanga.
