Gigie Cruz, ABS-CBN News/FileMANILA — Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Erwin Garcia recommended Monday to the en banc the extension of online registration for deactivated voters.

The move aims to encourage the remaining deactivated voters to avail the Comelec's extended online registration which will run until September 25, 2024.

From February 12 to September 11 this year, only a total of 556,231 registered voters processed their application, either as transfer for reactivation; transfer for reactivation with correction of entries; reactivation and reactivation with correction of entries.

The bulk of these applications or 342,991 are for reactivation, according to the data provided by Garcia.

Meantime, Filipinos processing their voter's application as of Comelec's tally last week now total to 6,131,834.

The volume represents 3,153,433 female applicants and 2,978,401 male voters.
