MANILA — A senator on Tuesday questioned why three law enforcement agencies failed to prevent the escape of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo despite having over P1 billion of intelligence and confidential funds combined.

During a Senate panel hearing investigating Guo's escape, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian confronted the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and asked how the embattled mayor was able to flee.

"Paano nangyari ito? Ang ating mga ahensya meron po silang mga sariling budget sa intelligence funds. Itong mga intelligence at confidential funds dapat ginafgmit para malaman yung galaw ng mga kriminal at taong may sala sa pamahalaan," Gatchalian said.

According to Gatchalian, the intelligence funds of the 3 agencies amount to over P1 billion, with the breakdown as follows:

The dismissed mayor is said to be hiding in Indonesia, according to BI. Her alleged sister Shiela Guo and companion Cassandra Li Ong were arrested in the same country last week and have since been deported.
