MANILA — The number of confirmed deaths due to the combined effects of the southwest monsoon, Tropical Depression Butchoy, and Typhoon Carina has climbed to eight on Tuesday, latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) showed.

In a situation report, the NDRRMC said two others were injured, while another person is missing.

A total of 179,744 families or 866,483 persons were affected by the heavy rains brought by the habagat, Butchoy, and Carina in different parts of the country.

Of the number, 7,738 families or 33,645 persons sought shelter in 56 evacuation centers.

A total of 67 houses were reported partially damaged, while 69 were "totally damaged," the NDRRMC said.

The three weather disturbances have caused P8,745,923.23 in agricultural damage so far, with 748 affected farmers and fisherfolk.

Damage to infrastructure is at P700,000.

As of Tuesday, at least 7 roads and one bridge remained impassable due to damage, while an airport and three seaports are not operational.

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 remained hoisted in Batanes, while Signal No. 1 is up over Cagayan, parts of Isabela, parts of Apayao and parts of Ilocos Norte.

Carina is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday.
