Risa Hontiveros on Friday said it would be unlikely for Liberal Party and the administration to coalesce in the 2025 midterm polls, citing "unresolved issues" in history attached to the Marcos family.

Former Sen. Antonio Trillanes III earlier sought the formation of a unity ticket composed of the Marcos administration and other major political parties to supposedly crush Duterte forces in the next elections.

"I understand where former Senator Sonny Trillanes is coming from... Bagama't mahalaga mapigilan yung pagbalik sa ganap na kapangyarihan ng mga Duterte, at the same time may mga unresolved issues sa kasaysayan ng mga human rights violation at plunder noong panahon ng martial law dictatorship," Hontiveros said, referring to the regime of Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., the father of the incumbent President.

Vice President Sara Duterte had said that her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, and brothers Baste and Paolo would gun for Senate seats next year. But analysts said this might be another political gimmick of the Duterte family.

According to Hontiveros, she has been working at forging a broad alliance for 2025 for the past 2 years.

"Please take it as nagbubuo ng sariling offer ang oposisyon sa ating mga mamamayan, distinct pa from that of the administration," Hontiveros said.

Hontiveros is the highest-ranking elected official belonging to what many would consider as the opposition.

Hontiveros believes there are other sectors they can invite to their alliance outside of the Marcos and Duterte forces.

"Actually malawak-lawak pa yung opposition and opppsitional groups na di pasok sa administrasyon at di rin aalyado sa mga Duterte so yun yung pangunahing trabaho namin... Magsasama-sama na kaming lahat," Hontiveros said

Hontiveros already posted on social media 3 of her candidates for senators, namely former Senators Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno.

Hontiveros also wants former Sen. Leila de Lima and former Vice President Leni Robredo to run for the Senate.

On Thursday, former Senate President Franklin Drilon from the Liberal Party also rejected Trillanes' proposal.

Drilon said he was saddened by the proposal since it highlights the personality-based nature of Philippine politics.
