MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said it has filed cases against supporters of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy while the camp of the embattled televangelist is also eyeing to press charges against the police force.

The brewing legal battle between the 2 camps stemmed from the PNP's Monday operation to serve warrants of arrest to Quiboloy at his compound in Davao City.

Over 100 policemen from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Special Action Force, and other PNP units stormed the properties of Quiboloy, including the KOJC compound in Buhangin, Davao City, and the Prayer and Glory Mountains in Barangay Tamayong early Monday.

According to PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo, 6 supporters of Quiboloy that participated in the demonstration at Glory Mountain were slapped with obstruction of justice, disobedience to agents of persons in authority, and possession of bladed weapons or blunt/pointed objects complaints.

Meanwhile, former President Rodrigo Duterte, representing KOJC, said they are set to take legal action against law enforcement agencies involved in what he described as an "overkill" serving of warrants.

Duterte alleged that the authorities did not present any search warrant in all of the church properties when it was raided by the law enforcement agencies.

The former President, who is also the administrator of KOJC properties, said authorities' action was a clear violation of the law and it cannot go unpunished.

"While I am saddened to do this given my personal, and in the past official, support for the police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, my duties as Administrator of Church Properties demand that I take legal and appropriate action," Duterte said in a statement on Thursday.

"In line with this, I have ordered not only the preparation of affidavits of all members aggrieved and traumatized by the said unfortunate incident but also an inventory of church properties destroyed as a consequence," he added.

Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office XI said the law enforcers have warrants of arrest to legitimately implement it against the respondents.

"I hope that the followers understand that the police are not the enemy. We are only there to serve the warrants of arrest as a law enforcer," PRO XI spokesperson Maj. Catherine Dela Rey said.

On Tuesday, the PNP asserted it followed legal security protocols when it served the warrants of arrest.

Quiboloy, who remains at large, is facing sexual abuse and trafficking cases in Davao City and Pasig City courts.

Despite the tension, authorities said no one was reported hurt during the operation.

Sen. Robin Padilla is also eyeing to conduct a Senate probe to determine if there was "unnecessary and excessive force" used during the operation.
