Marcos and his wife Liza Araneta-Marcos hosted a get-together with several senators and their spouses, as shown in an Instagram post by the first lady on Wednesday.

"Had a nice time breaking bread with the Senators & their spouses," Araneta-Marcos wrote in the post.

Escudero earlier said that he had accepted the Palace's invitation to the Senate for a "social dinner" on Tuesday night.

Other new Senate leaders present at the gathering were Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada and Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino.

Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Pia Cayetano, Robinhood Padilla, Raffy Tulfo, Mark Villar, Grace Poe, Cynthia Villar, Loren Legarda, and Sherwin Gatchalian also attended the dinner.

Escudero said Sen. Imee Marcos arrived in the gathering after the photo was taken.

Sen. Bong Revilla told ABS-CBN News his wife Rep. Lani Mercado represented him at the dinner as he was still recuperating from surgery.

Zubiri and some of his allies in the Senate — Sonny Angara, Nancy Binay, JV Ejercito, and Joel Villanueva — were absent from the photo posted by the first lady.

Zubiri had said he was stepping down from his post after he "failed to follow instructions from the powers that be."

Estrada on Tuesday said that neither he, the Palace, nor Speaker Martin Romualdez had a hand in the Senate shakeup.

On Tuesday, Marcos extended support to Escudero's election as the new Senate president.

Escudero's "legislative record and commitment to public service have distinguished him as a dedicated leader," Marcos said in a statement on social media.

"I am confident that under his leadership, the Senate will continue to prioritize transformative laws to achieve our shared vision for a Bagong Pilipinas," Marcos also said, referencing the administration's brand and slogan.
