SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday said Vice President Sara Duterte would remain in his Cabinet despite suggestions that she should be replaced following the admission of ill feelings of First Lady Liza Marcos towards her.

"I don’t see the reason behind that [replacement]," Marcos told reporters.

"It will not affect our working relationship with the Vice President, Secretary of Education," he added.

Marcos said he saw no valid reason to replace Duterte.

“Any of the Cabinet secretaries will be replaced kapag hindi nila ginagawa yung trabaho nila. All the other things are not part of the discussion. Kapag hindi na kaya, nagkasakit, sabihin mo lang, papalitan ka namin. Kapag hindi talaga marunong o korap, tatanggalin ka talaga namin. Hindi naman ganoon si Inday,” Marcos said.

He also confirmed that he would speak with Vice President Duterte on the matter.

“I don’t think we need to patch anything up. She understands, as a wife herself, the sentiments of the First Lady. Our conversation will be precisely that. I’m sure you’ll understand how she feels,” he added.

In an interview with TV personality Anthony Taberna on Friday, the First Lady said she felt hurt over the Vice President's reaction after her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, accused President Marcos of drug use. The elder Duterte later walked his remarks back.

Marcos said he felt “lucky” to have a wife who defends him.

“First of all, my first reaction is what a lucky husband I am that I have a wife na very protective sa akin na, kahit na, may nakitang hindi magandang sinabi tungkol sa akin, she gets very upset. We cannot blame her,” he said.

“Ang First Lady, hindi sanay sa pulitika ‘yan e. Kami, manhid na kami diyan, sa insulto. Siya, hindi siya galing sa political family, kaya siguro she still has to learn, magpalagpas nang kaunti ng ibang masasakit at maaanghang na salita,” he added.
