MANILA — Sen. Sonny Angara on Monday confirmed that there is resolution going around the Senate carrying a "message of support" for the leadership of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.

Angara said the resolution supporting Zubiri aims to quell persistent talks to unseat him.

“In support... Eh kasi nga, parang pabalik-balik yung rumors. So, we just want to put the issue to rest para we can work properly,” Angara said.

Asked if the resolution can also be regarded as a form of “loyalty check,” Angara said: “Something like that.”

He also admitted that there is indeed a certain group trying to unseat Zubiri.

“Mukha eh... Wala namang pressure [to protect Zubiri]. We just want to make sure na yung mga ganun eh hindi manufactured. So I think, the Senate President is reaching to everyone,” Angara said.

He is not aware how many have already signed the resolution, the senator said.

Senators Cynthia Villar, Jinggoy Estrada, and Loren Legarda are reportedly being wooed by a certain camp to replace Zubiri.

"I think yung kinakausap nila yung mga ano, maybe dissatisfied or may ambitions,” Angara said.

Angara is confident that Zubiri will survive the alleged threat.

“Ako I think so kasi wala namang isyu talaga sa kanya sa totoo lang,” Angara said.

Zubiri remains mum on the issue but said he will "issue a statement."
