1,500 Manila cops to be deployed on Chinese New Year

MANILA — The Manila Police District (MPD) on Tuesday said it would deploy 1,500 officers to secure Chinese New Year celebrations in the capital's Chinatown, Binondo this weekend.

The Manila government expects 1 million attendees for the Chinese New Year celebration this year.

Posters were earlier distributed around Binondo to remind revelers to be cautious, especially against pickpockets.

Reminders from the MPD include the following:

1.    Be vigilant of your surroundings and don't be complacent, especially in crowded places.
2.    Do not wear jewelry and expensive items that are attractive to thieves.
3.    It is better to put valuable things like wallets, cash, and cellphones in your bag and keep it in front of you.
 4. Avoid talking to strangers.
