MANILA — Atty. Karlo Nograles has resigned as chairperson of the Civil Service Commission.

In his resignation letter dated October 7, Monday, Nograles said he is resigning from his post after two years of service.

“It is with mixed emotions that I tender my resignation as Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) effective today, 7 October 2024. This decision was difficult to make, as my time with the Commission has been productive, fulfilling, and inspiring. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside such dedicated public servants,” he said.

Nograles also said he will be using his experience in CSC as he returns to his roots in Davao City “where I hope to bring and apply the lessons I have learned in my tenure as the head of the Commission, as well as my two decades in government.”

“As I embark on this new path of public service, I leave the CSC extremely confident in its ability to steer our bureaucracy towards greater heights,” he added.

Under his leadership, the CSC implemented direct public engagement programs and improved the profile of eligibility exams in order to make government service more appealing to Filipinos.

The CSC has also publicly recognized the most outstanding civil servants during his term, and pushed for modernization and digitalization of the agency.

Prior to his appointment in CSC, Nograles served as Cabinet Secretary in the Duterte administration from 2018 to 2022, while also serving as acting Presidential spokesperson from 2021 to 2022.

He also served as representative of the 1st District of Davao City from 2010 to 2018.

Senior Commissioner Atty. Aileen Lizada will serve as the acting chairman of the commission.
