MANILA (UPDATED) — Makati City Mayor Abby Binay on Friday filed her certificate of candidacy for senator.

Binay said she was banking on her nearly a decade of experience as a legislator at the House of Representatives before she went into local politics at the Binay bailiwick of Makati.

However, Binay refused to answer questions on the looming face-off between her sister, outgoing Sen. Nancy Binay, and her husband Luis Campos, who are both gunning for the Makati City mayoralty race.

She confirmed that Campos will file his COC on Saturday.

If elected senator, Binay said she would prioritize amendments on the local government code.

In a statement after her filing, Binay also said she will push to provide the poorest of the poor with free maintenance medicine alongside other social programs.

“Kapag hindi na namomroblema ang ating mga kababayan sa kanilang kalusugan, kung hindi nila iniisip kung saan kukuha ng pambayad sa gamot, doktor, ospital; mas nabibigyang pansin nila ang kanilang pamilya at ang kanilang hanapbuhay,” she said.

(When citizens no longer have to worry about their health and how they are going to pay for the costs of medicine, doctor’s fees, and hospital bills, they can take better care of their family and livelihood)
