PAGASA forecasts that Kong-rey will slowly intensify over the Philippine Sea, potentially reaching severe tropical storm category on Sunday and typhoon category on Monday.

The outer rainbands of the storm may affect the northernmost parts of Luzon, while it may also push the southwesterly winds initially influenced by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine to bring rains over the western section of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in the coming days.

The cyclone is expected to exit the PAR late Thursday or early Friday.
