Senator Cynthia Villar on Monday gave her own take on Vice-President Sara Duterte's pronouncements last week, specifically her admonition to Senator Imee Marcos that she will dig up the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr's remains from the Libingan ng Mga Bayani and throw them in the West Philippine Sea.

Villar said the Vice-President was simply fed up due to the "prosecution" against her and her family, which Villar believes has gone too far.

She urged both the Dutertes and the administration to patch things up.

"Siyempre galit eh. Kung ano-ano naiisip kasi galit. Kasi I think masyado namang pinrosecute kaya nagagalit. Siguro 'yun ang reason doon but sana mag ano na lang, magbati na lang para walang problema," she told reporters in an interview.

Last week, the Vice-President unleashed a torrent of criticism against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., saying he "does not know how to be president" and said that she had even imagined cutting off his head after an incident wherein a student was allegedly humiliated after asking the President if he could get Marcos' watch as a graduation gift.

She also revealed that she had told Sen. Imee Marcos that she would throw the late Marcos's remains in the West Philippine Sea if they did not stop the political attacks against her family.

Marcos and Duterte had teamed up to a landslide victory in the May 2022 presidential and vice presidential election.

But after months of tense relations between their families, Duterte in June quit Marcos' Cabinet and resigned as the vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

In the interview, Villar initially tried to refrain from commenting on the Vice-President's press conference last Friday, but said she does not want conflict between the country's top 2 officials.

"Syempre ayaw natin na may conflict. Mahirap 'yan eh so we're hoping that there will be no conflict in our government kasi we have many problems. We don't need any conflict to deter the solution of the problems," she said.

She added, however, she does not see the conflict affecting the economy.

"Tingin ko naman 'yung economy, right policies 'yan eh. Di masyadong political, you just have to do the right policies na makakatulong para ma-encourage ang economy," Villar said.

Villar maintained that only Filipinos care about the politics so the conflict may have a bearing on next year's elections.

Villar's family heads the Nacionalista Party, who has 3 candidates in the administration senatorial ticket next year: Villar's daughter, Camille and re-electionists Pia Cayetano and Imee Marcos, the latter being the president's sister.

The Villars are also known allies of the Dutertes.

The Dutertes have been the subject of various investigations by allies of the President in the Lower House.
