MANILA — Content creator and entrepreneur Rosemarie Tan Pamulaklakin, more known as Rosmar Tan, is among the residents vying for posts in the capital city’s council for the 2025 elections.

Pamulaklakin on Tuesday filed her certificate of candidacy for councilor in Manila’s first district.

The multimillionaire vlogger, who gained a following from selling beauty products online, told reporters she did not originally intend to run this year because of the stress of politics, but was urged by many friends.

“May nag-push po sa’kin na, ‘Tumakbo ka kasi kailangan ka ng tao, kasi kailangan nila ng tunay na pagbabago’,” she said.

“Nakumbinse po nila ako dahil sabi mas marami akong matutulungan kapag nakaposisyon, so ‘yon lang ang bagay na nagpa-oo sa akin,” she added.

(Some pushed me to run saying I should because people need me and they need true change. They convinced me by saying I could help more people when I am in a position of power. So that was the only thing that got me to say ‘yes’ to running.)

Pamulaklakin, who is running as an independent, said it is her second time throwing her hat into politics after placing 20th in Manila’s fourth district councilor race in 2022.

She recounted that she was unable to campaign effectively then since she was pregnant with her first daughter.

While acknowledging she did not have the legal or academic background for public office, Pamulaklakin said she was smart enough to serve the public.

She added that voters will see a “more serious” side to her than the personality she shows on her vlogs.

Earlier this year, she and fellow influencer Rendon Labador attracted controversy after making viral remarks against Coron, Palawan—consequently being declared persona non grata by the town.

“‘Yong Rosmar sa social media at Rosmar sa totoong buhay ay magkaiba po. At ‘yong content ko po na parang engot-engotan, tanga-tangahan, hindi ganoon ‘yong Rosmar dahil masasabi ko naman po na matalino akong tao. At hindi doon natatapos ang pagiging politiko,” she said.

(The Rosmar on social media and the Rosmar in real life are different. And my online content were I seem stupid or idiotic, that’s not me, since I can say I am an intelligent person. But that’s not the be all end all of being a politician.)

Among the projects she plans to push if she wins are providing maintenance medicines to senior citizens who cannot afford them.
