A magnitude 4.8 quake struck Iloilo province late Thursday and was felt in nearby areas which were still reeling from a deadly Christmas typhoon, state seismologists said.

Authorities in Iloilo are still checking for damage, Governor Arthur Defensor told radio DZMM. There was no immediate report of casualties.

The tectonic tremor hit 6 kilometers northeast of San Enrique town past 8 p.m., said Phivolcs.

At a depth of 12 kilometers, the quake was felt at intensity 4 or "moderately strong" shaking which is "like the passing of heavy truck" in San Enrique, Passi and Dingle in Iloilo; Tapaz, Capiz; and Bago City, Negros Occidental, said the agency.

Intensity 3 shaking, which causes hanging objects to "swing moderately", was recorded in Iloilo City; La Carlota City and Bacolod City in Negros Occidental; Bugasong and Barbaza in Antique; and Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, Phivolcs said.

The quake was also felt in President Roxas in Capiz and Masbate City at an Intensity 2 shaking, which makes water water in containers move noticeably, the agency said.

Thirteen of the 28 fatalities left by Ursula were from Iloilo, where the typhoon triggered floods in some areas, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Two northern Iloilo town earlier declared a state of calamity to tap emergency funds due to Typhoon Ursula (Phanfone), said Defensor.

It may take 5 days before electricity is restored to 4 towns, he added.
