MANILA - Tacloban City in Leyte has been placed under a state of calamity Friday following the devastation caused by Tropical Storm "Urduja."

The Tacloban City Council declared the state of calamity around 2:25 p.m. Friday as heavy rains brought by Urduja continued to flood parts of the city.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Leyte as Urduja is expected to make landfall between Saturday morning or afternoon over Northern Samar or the Eastern Samar area, state weather bureau PAGASA said. -- with a report from Geron Ponferrada, ABS-CBN News
