Locals seek shelter in a covered court after 24 houses were destroyed by fire in Davao City

DAVAO CITY -- Twenty-four houses were razed by fire in Barangay Tomas Monteverde Senior in Davao City on Sunday morning.

The fire started at 11 a.m. and was declared out at 12:10 p.m.

Residents believe that two boarders Jane Tay and Terry Bandilan caused the fire.

"Giyab-an daw gasolina mao nga nasunog, gituyo nila ang pagsunog", Dolores Gadiano, who lost four of her houses said.

(They poured gasoline, it was intentional.)

Bandilan is currently detained at the Sta. Ana Police Station.

"Dili na tinood, didto sa ubos nagsugod ang sunog,sa taas man mi nagpuyo, gikulata mi sa mga tao didto, nagkabun-og ko, gisumbag ako tiyan tulo ka bulang buntis biya ko,” Tay said.

(It's not true. The fire started downstairs. We were renting at the second floor. They hit me even if I'm three months pregnant)

Three classrooms of Agdao Elementary School-main campus were also consumed by fire.

No injuries or death were reported in the fire.

The Bureau of Fire Protection is still investigating the cause of the fire and has yet to release an estimate of the damage.
