SILAY CITY -- Heavy rains flooded 5 barangays in this city, affecting some 400 families, authorities said Tuesday.
Thirteen families or 40 individuals were evacuated to the Natalio Velez Sports and Cultural Center, according to the City Social Welfare Development Office.
Heavy rains since Monday night inundated Lantad, Barangay 2, Rizal Interior, Mambulac and Guinhalaran, said the head of the city disaster council, Alexander Muńoz.
The flooding also prompted Mayor Mark Golez to suspend classes in all levels in the city.
Meanwhile, a tree fell on a shanty in Barangay 3 due to strong rains. There were no casualties, according to a neighbor, Roger Valente.
