MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte has formally appointed Senator Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan as the next secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
Malacañang on Thursday released the nomination paper of Honasan dated Nov. 20.
Honasan, a former military man, will have to face the powerful Commission on Appointments for his confirmation as DICT secretary.
He will replace DICT officer in charge Eliseo Rio, who served as the head of the National Telecommunications Commission during the time of former President and now House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Honasan's acceptance of the offer comes as the DICT named Mislatel as the country's third telco player.
