LAPU-LAPU CITY - The primary witness in the killing of Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Boniel on Friday testified that it was former Bohol Provincial Board Member Niño Rey Boniel who killed his wife.

Roilito Boniel, who was the boatman, said he saw former Board Member Boniel shot the victim on the head before they dumped her body off the waters of Cuabian Island in Cebu.

He admitted he was paid P10,000 cash to operate the motorbanca.

Roilito is the cousin of former Board Member Boniel.

The family of the slain mayor, through her older sister Micay Bendong, said hearing the witness' testimony made her sad knowing how her sister suffered. She is however relieved that someone had testified.

Board Member Boniel, who resigned from his position last June, denied his cousin's allegations, saying the truth will eventually come out.

Earlier this year, the Department of Justice has ordered the withdrawal of parricide charges against Board Member Boniel.
