MANILA - A former Davao City Police director is the new head of the Manila Police District (MPD).

Senior Supt. Vicente Danao Jr. on Thursday assumed his new post as acting district director of the Manila Police District, a prime assignment leading the capital's police force.

Danao, who also served as deputy director for operations of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, is from the Philippine Military Academy Sambisig Class of 1991.

His assumption to the post comes amid the backdrop of sex abuse allegations hounding the police force.

Last week, a police officer from Sampaloc, Manila was arrested and charged with rape for supposedly soliciting sex from a 15-year-old girl in exchange for dropping drug charges against her father.

He is also facing a separate administrative case that may lead to his dismissal from the service.

Following the incident, advocacy group Coalition Against Trafficking in Women–Asia Pacific alleged that a "palit-puri" scheme is rampant within the police ranks.

Asked for comment regarding the allegation, Danao maintained that he would not tolerate such wrongdoing.

"We will not tolerate. 'Pag nalaman ko 'yang pulis na 'yan na nagpapalit-puri na 'yan, puputulin ko itlog niyan," he told reporters Thursday.

(Once I learn that a police officer is involved in the "palit-puri" scheme, I will cut off his balls.)
