MISAMIS ORIENTAL - A police officer was killed in a freak road accident in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.

PO3 Ralph Delicana was riding his motorcycle on his way home when he accidentally collided with another motorcycle at around 2 p.m. on Monday.

The impact from the collision threw the victim to the opposite lane of the highway where an approaching jeepney ran over him.

The victim was brought to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival. He sustained fatal injuries.

The jeepney driver, identified as 26-year-old Mario Tapayan, voluntarily surrendered himself to the authorities.

Tapayan said the victim went under the jeep’s bumper and he didn’t notice until it was too late.

The suspect maintained he wasn’t speeding.

Delicana was assigned at the Provincial Public Safety Company in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.

The suspect will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
