MANILA – It will be another rainy weekend for Filipinos, said weather bureau PAGASA, due to the effect of an intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) on Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

In its 24-hour forecast issued 5 p.m. Friday, PAGASA said that as of 4 p.m., a low pressure area embedded along the ITCZ was in the vicinity of Sorsogon City.

Due to this, there will be cloudy skies and moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms in Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Quezon.

MIMAROPA, the rest of Visayas, Mindanao, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, and Rizal will see cloudy skies and light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, while Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon will have cloudy skies and light rain.

Coastal waters throughout the country will be moderate to rough, said PAGASA, so small craft should not venture out.

Tropical storm Meari (international name) was located 1,880 kilometers east of Central Luzon as of 4 p.m. Friday. Another tropical depression was 2,845 km east of extreme Northern Luzon. The two did not have significant effect on the country’s weather.

Constant rain brought by the ITCZ led to flooding in several areas in the country, and also damaged infrastructure, which had to be repaired. Some domestic flights were also cancelled.

Authorities have called on Filipinos to be on guard for possible floods and landslides in affected areas, and to be prepared for evacuation if necessary.
