KORONADAL CITY- Barangay Carpenter Hill in Koronadal City is now under a state of calamity after six of its zones got flooded.

According to some residents of Purok Pag-asa, the canal near their homes overflowed last Thursday.

They were still cleaning the mud inside their houses as of this writing.

"Halos hindi ka na makagalaw sa loob ng bahay kasi puno ng putik," said Pontivillar Ropero.

Another resident, Jose Bacason, had to improvise a foot bridge and put sand bags outside their house after the flood swamped their compound. His furniture were destroyed and he also lost his chicken in the flood.

Bacason asked the city government to address the overflowing of the canal, adding that it has flooded in their area three times this October.

"Paano na lang kami, palagi na lang kami nag-aayos ng bahay tapos babahain ka lang ulit. Pabalik balik na lang," he said.

(We always fix and clean our houses and then we will be flooded again. It happens again and again.)

Their chapel was also destroyed by the flood, and the basketball court, where some farmers put their crops to dry, were filled with sand.

According to Barangay captain Benedicto Pastera, Purok Pag-asa was the most affected area in the barangay.

At least 150 families have been affected by flood but no one had to be evacuated.

Puroks Dimalilay, Mabuhay 1, Paglaum, Mainuswagon, and Santo Niño have also reportedly experienced flashfloods.

The Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management office were still conducting a damage assessment in the affected areas as of posting.

"Yung isa sa pinag-iisipan namin, yung food for work para ma-clear out o ma-clean yung mga canal dito para yung flow ng tubig tuloy-tuloy. Pinag-iisipan din namin kung anong livehood project na bagay sa kanila para lang ma-augment yung pangangailangan nila," Pastera said.

(We are still deciding whether to offer food for work to clear the canal for continuous flow of water. We have also yet to decide on livelihood projects to offer the residents.)

On November 7, barangay officials will have a dialogue with the city government and other agencies to plan the rehabilitation of the canal.
