SAMAR - An effigy of the grim reaper surrounded by skulls and tombstones was the star of a parade in Catbalogan City, as policemen launched their anti-illegal drugs campaign.

Police are hoping the horrific props will effectively warn the public about the use of illegal drugs.

"If you'll keep on pushing or using drugs, you'll end up in his (the grim reaper's) hands," says Superintendent Jennifer Sumpo, spokesperson of Samar Police Provincial Office.

She said their campaign using the grim reaper does not reflect the proliferation of killings, but promotes life.

"Our advocacy is pro-life. We give chances to those involved in drugs so the grim reaper will not take them," Sumpo said.

Based on the record of Samar Police 1,275 individuals have already surrendered in the province from July to September this year while 4 alleged drug peddlers and users were killed in police operations.
