Russia vows support for Philippines in fight vs terrorism

According to Sen. Bong Go, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated President Rodrigo Duterte for his administration's efforts to combat terrorism. Handout

Moscow is committed to help the Duterte government should the need arise, especially in the campaign against terrorism, Sen. Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go said on Saturday.

The lawmaker and members of the cabinet are in Russia for an official visit.

"Naging maayos naman ang pagbisita ng Pangulo. First day sa pagbisita sa Russia, nagpasalamat ang ating gobyerno," Go said.

"Nais din ng Pangulo na paigtingin pa ang ating relasyon sa bansang Russia, lalo na (ang) laban sa terorismo. Alam niyo naman tuloy tuloy ang terorismo sa ating bansa. Very much willing na tumulong ang Russia."

According to Go, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated President Rodrigo Duterte for his administration's efforts to combat terrorism.

"Full support ang Russia sa ating bansa," Go said.

With bilateral security relations strengthened, the senator said the hope is that benefits the economy.

"Umaasa kami na maraming business opportunities ang maiuwi ng Pangulo para sa mas maraming trabaho para sa mga Pilipino sa bansa," Go said.

Filipino business executives and their Russian counterparts signed a number of business agreements worth $12.6 million, ranging from agriculture and energy industries.

Meanwhile, Go also said the presidential entourage will meet with Filipino expatriates there.
