MAYNILA—Patay ang beteranong radio commentator na si Percy Lapid matapos siya pagbabarilin malapit sa kaniyang bahay sa Las Piñas City, Lunes ng gabi.

Ayon sa Southern Police District, nasa loob ng kaniyang sasakyan si Lapid — o si Percival Mabasa — sa Aria St., Brgy. Talon Dos alas 8:30 ng gabi bago ang pamamaril.

Sa isang panayam, sinabi ni hepe ng Las Pinas Police na si Col. Jaime Santos na nilapitan ng isang riding-in-tandem ang biktima bago ito barilin. 

"Based on the CCTV footages that we've gathered, we saw that there was this motorcycle riding in tandem only who approached and fired upon the victim after which they fled to unknown destination," aniya.

Dalawang basyo ng bala ang nakuha sa crime scene.

Ayon kay Santos, kilalang ligtas na lugar ang tinitirahan ng biktima.

"We cannot discount the possibility that this was a premeditated attack launched by this riding in tandem. The situation then was very, very quick," dagdag nito.

Iniimbestiga na ng mga awtoridad ang motibo ng krimen at pagkakakilanlan ng mga salarin.

Ani Santos, hinihintay nila ang kopya ng dashcam footage at cellphone ng biktima. 

Dating radio commentator ng DWIZ 882 KHZ at DWBL 1242 AM si Mabasa.

Isa siyang kilalang kritiko ng mga administrasyong Duterte at Marcos Jr.

Samantala, nagpahayag naman ng pagkondena ang ilang taga-media at mga aktibista sa nangyaring pagpaslang

Ayon kay Carlos Conde, senior Philippines researcher sa Human Rights Watch at dating mamamahayag, ito ang unang kaso umano ng pagpatay ng isang taga-media sa ilalim ng kasalukuyang administrasyon.
