MANILA - (UPDATE) An agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and a purported asset were arrested for possessing suspected shabu in San Pedro City, Laguna Saturday.

Police said they were planning to raid a house where one of the suspects was. When they entered the house, the police were surprised to see the PDEA agent there, along with 10 plastic sachets containing the drug paraphernalia.

Authorities also seized 2 caliber-.45 guns, a caliber-.40 gun, a grenade, and ammunition.

PDEA director-general Aaron Aquino confirmed that one of those arrested is one of his agents and that he was assigned to the agency's Cordillera office.

In a statement Sunday, Aquino said the arrest was "proof that crooked law enforcers exist even in PDEA."

Aquino vowed that PDEA would be "stricter in the implementation of its internal cleansing to rid the agency of erring employees" and to cooperate with the police in government's anti-narcotics campaign.

The raid was reportedly initiated through a warrant for illegal possession of firearms so PDEA would not notice the operations since their personnel was involved.
