MANILA - Roughly four months since her reelection, Balabagan, Lanao del Sur Mayor Edna Ogka-Benito will have to vacate her elective position.

This, after the Office of the Ombudsman ordered Benito's dismissal from service after she was found guilty of grave misconduct.

The Ombudsman said Benito blatantly disregarded the established rules on payment of salaries and leave approval after failing to act on an employee's leave application and payment of back salaries in 2014.

Aside from dismissal, Benito is also perpetually disqualified from holding public office. Her civil service eligibility is cancelled. She will also not receive her retirement benefits.
