MANILA - Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada is suffering from slipped disc and needs to undergo therapy, his son, former Senator Jinggoy Estrada, said Monday.

Other than this, the 80-year-old local chief executive was fine, said the former lawmaker.

“Ok naman, kaya lang meron siyang slipped disc na na-discover. Medyo malaki ang bulge so the doctors advised him to undergo therapy. That's about it," he said.

A slipped disc is when a soft cushion of tissue between the bones in the spine pushes out and is painful if it presses on nerves, according to the website of United Kingsom's National Health Service (NHS).

The younger Estrada revealed his father's condition after his first day of trial for graft at the Sandiganbayan 5th Division.

Before being freed on bail, Jinggoy was detained at police general headquarters since 2014 on allegations he received kickbacks from the misuse of "pork barrel" or congressional funds.
