NAGA CITY - Some 500 families in Naga City, Cebu were evacuated Thursday following a massive landslide that left at least 18 people dead while dozens remain missing.

The affected families from 3 villages were brought to the Enan Chiong Activity Center and were immediately given assistance.

One of the survivors shared to ABS-CBN News how they escaped from the near-death experience.

Mary Mata said her 80-year-old paralytic mother almost died if not for the help of their neighbor.

"May na lang naay silingan namo nialsa niya," she said.

(Good thing our neighbor carried her.)

Some children were also debriefed after showing signs of trauma from the incident, social workers said.

A portion of the mountain collapsed early Thursday following heavy rains and buried houses in Sitio Sindulan, Barangay Tinaan.
