BATANES -- A total of 1,224 houses were damaged by typhoon Ferdie (international name: Meranti) National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) spokesperson Romina Marasigan said.

Of this total number, 292 homes were "totally damaged" in the towns of Basco, Itbayat, Uyugan and Ivana.

"What we are requiring right now are materials that could be used for the reconstruction of the houses and also for the restoration of their power lines and communication services," Marasigan said.

She added that several generators have already been sent by the NDRRMC to Batanes but power supplies remain lacking since several electricity posts were toppled down by the typhoon.

Though there were no fatalities attributed to the typhoon, two fisherman from Itbayat are reportedly misssing.
