Japan's Himawari-8 satellite captured Typhoon Ompong's landfall in Cagayan province early Saturday morning.
The tropical cyclone slammed into Baggao town in Cagayan at around 1:40 a.m., according to state weather bureau PAGASA.
Ompong, which was moving west-northwest at 35 kilometers per hour, was packing maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching 285 kph.
