MANILA - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will assume the chairmanship of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC).

President Rodrigo Duterte, through Executive Order No. 90 signed on Aug. 28 but released only to the public on Monday, transferred the chairmanship of the rehabilitation body to the DENR from the Department of Budget and Management.

The PRRC was formed through an executive order signed by former president Joseph Estrada on Jan. 6, 1999.

Under the Estrada-era order, the budget secretary and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority general manager shall exercise co-chairmanship of the commission.

Duterte, in his order, explained that the transfer of chairmanship is for "close coordination and oversight" of clean-up efforts and rehabilitation of major waterways in Metro Manila, given that the DENR handles the Manila Bay Task Force.

The MMDA, under Duterte's latest order, will meanwhile retain co-chairmanship of the PRRC.

Heads of the following agencies meanwhile will serve as members of the commission:

-Department of Public Works and Highways
-Department of Budget and Management
-Department of Tourism
-Department of Transportation
-Department of Finance
-Department of Trade and Industry
-Department of National Defense
-Department of the Interior and Local Government
-Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development
-Office od the Executive Secretary

The President meanwhile will appoint 3 representatives from the private sector as members of the commission.
