MANILA - Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Thursday said she would seek reelection in 2019, foregoing a bid for a Senate seat.
This despite her strong showing in a recent senatorial poll by Pulse Asia, where she was in the 3rd-5th places with 46.2 percent of respondents saying they would vote for her.
Duterte-Carpio, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, was also included in the possible senatorial slate of ruling party PDP-Laban.
Duterte-Carpio, however, solicited support for Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos, former senator Jinggoy Estrada, and Davao City Rep. Karlo Nograles, who are known to be running for senator in the upcoming midterm elections.
Marcos was among personalities endorsed by the mayor's regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
The list also includes Bureau of Corrections Director Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, a former Davao City police chief, Special assistant to the President Christopher "Bong" Go, and Estrada's half-brother Sen. JV Ejercito. -- Report from Vivienne Gulla, ABS-CBN News
